Hello! My name is Kathy Olenczuk. I have been teaching kids to read for over 30 years. I began my career in 1992 as a Kindergarten teacher, and have since taught Grades K-3, and was awarded Oakland County Teacher of the Year in 2008! I have served as a teacher leader, early literacy coach, and district literacy specialist. But the work that has brought me the most JOY has always been sitting side-by-side with students, coaching them as readers and writers!

In March of 2026 I completed my certification as an Orton-Gillingham Associate (A/OGA) through the Orton-Gillingham Academy, completing over 100 hours of supervised practicum under the mentorship of an Academy Fellow. In my current tutoring practice, I work daily with striving readers, delivering structured, multisensory instruction that is thoughtfully tailored to each child’s unique learning profile. My approach is grounded in the science of reading and designed to build not only foundational skills, but also confidence and a lasting sense of success.

I am very passionate about literacy and my life's calling is helping children of all ages and skill levels develop strong reading and writing skills. I believe that one-on-one, personalized instruction can be life-changing for children who may be struggling with these skills. The Orton-Gillingham method is multisensory, and highly structured to ensure your child is successful!

The process begins with an assessment of your child's reading and spelling skills, so that I can design a scope & sequence of lessons to meet their specific learning needs. We then follow that scope and sequence, moving at your child's own pace, ensuring they master each skill before moving on. Striving readers often have low self-confidence after years of struggle due to inadequate instruction. That is why I always prioritize boosting your child's self-esteem, making sure they feel respected and successful during our time together!
